TIOS101: More information on Rset for current limiting

Part Number: TIOS101

I'm looking for more information on current limit configuration. Section 8.3.1 of datasheet mentions Rset for a variable limit and Figure 4 provides a curve, but an equation or more detailed lookup table would be useful.

  • Hi Barrett,

    You can use the following equation to compute the over-current threshold based on Rset value:

    I_threshold = (350 mA) * (20 kOhm / (R_set + 20 kOhm))

    If the output current is above this threshold for ~200 us (175 us minimum), the device will report an over-current fault via the NFAULT pin and (as long as ILIM_ADJ is not left open) will automatically disable the output and re-enable it ~15 ms later. I wanted to clarify on this point so that the limit setting isn't misinterpreted as a continuously-regulated maximum output current.

    Please let me know if you have any further questions on this.

    Regards,
    Max
