DS25BR440: How can I transmit 300MHz signal through 20M copper line

Part Number: DS25BR440
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS15EA101, DS15BA101

Hello,

My customer want to use copper instead of fiber to transmit 300MHz signal  through 20M line. DS25BR440 may be used for copper cable Driving and Equalization. Below is my question:

  • Is DS25BR440 able to transmit  300MHz signal  through 20M copper line?
  • Is there a better way to realize this? e.g. transmit ethernet signal by copper line?

Thanks

  • Hi Jeff,

DS25BR440 was designed to support higher data rates therefor it does not have high gain at around 300MHz. Also, this depends on insertion loss of your copper cable. Please check your cable insertion loss versus Test Channel Loss Characteristics table noted in DS25BR440 device. At 300MHz loss would be less than 500MHz noted in the data sheet by 1 to 2dB. You can use as a figure to see if DS25BR440 equalizer has enough gain to compensate for your copper cable loss characteristics.

Also, you may want to consider DS15BA101 and DS15EA101. These devices are designed to operate close to 300MHz clock range that you are interested. These could be a better option.
