TPS65981EVM: Select between 4-lanes Displayport or USB 3 Data

Part Number: TPS65981EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

Hello,

I wonder if it is possible to configure the TPS65981 in a way that depending on the connection with the same firmware it is possible to capture 4-lanes DisplayPort or USB3.
That means if a USB3 signal is connected it would set the switch to establish a USB3 link.
But if a DisplayPort signal is connected, all four high-speed lines would be used for DisplayPort.
Is this possible? How needs the TPS65981 be configured for that?

Thank you.

Regards,

Viktor

  • Hi Viktor,

If a USB3 device is attached that doesn't support DisplayPort. The TPS65981 would enable the USB3 connection and set the superspeed mux. When a DisplayPort device is connected, the TPS65981 would enter the DisplayPort alternate mode and based on the pin assignment would enable either 4-lane DP or 2-lane DP + 2-lane USB3.
