TPS65987D: SPI-Flash Less Application, Time Restriction of I2C Patching

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hi Team,

In order to use the SPI-Flash Less Application,
Are there any time restriction of I2C Patching timing from Host MCU to TPS65987D after the TPS65987D is enabled from the view point of USB Type-C/PD specifications under the other side device (already active) is connected through USB Type-C?
For example, the I2C Patching from Host MCU to the TPS65987D after the TPS65987D is enabled have to be done within ?? sec.
Thank you.

Best Regards,

Koshi Ninomiya

  • Hi Ninomiya-san,

Time restrictions depend on Boot Mode Pin Strapping configurations for Dead Battery Mode and Device Default Configurations.

For flash-less systems, I recommend "Infinite Wait" (see Table 7 in the TPS65987D datasheet) to keep the TPS65987D in boot mode until a patch is transferred successfully via the PTCx commands. If the device is allowed to time out of boot mode before a patch is transferred, then it will operate in a set configuration without patch update or user supplied configuration. This could result in operation different than expected.

    Regards,
    Scott
