SN65LVDS93B: Compatibility with LCD

Hi,

Customer is used AM5728 for the video IP phone which supports parallel display interface. They would like to used LCD with LVDS interface in the product, since they have more choices with LVDS interface. We are discussing on SN65LVDS93B or DS90C385A device.

DO you see any concerns of using either of these device with attached LCD ? If so, could you please help to suggest suitable device ?

Hi Prahlad,

That is not an LVDS display, it is a MIPI DSI display. LVDS is not compatible with MIPI DSI, and we don't have any suitable devices for a MIPI DSI display. This would be an example of an LVDS display in which you can use those devices: www.display-solution.com/.../g101evn01.3-20160504.pdf

Hi Thariq,

I believe that datasheet is incorrect. There is no such thing as "LVDS DSI" as they are completely different. Either the display is DSI or it is LVDS, and none of the information in the datasheet leads me to believe that it is an LVDS display.

For example, it's common mode voltage specification is significantly higher than typical LVDS displays and it's missing information about differential voltage threshold and the mapping format (either JEIDA or VESA).

I included an LVDS display datasheet in my original post that you can see as a reference.

Hi I.K.,

The vendor has confirmed that this is an LVDS display, as mentioned in page 4 of datasheet.
I am attaching a revised datasheet of the touch panel supported variant(KWH070KQ40-C09) which I just received, with differential voltage threshold values. This being a relatively new product from the vendor, I assume "LVDS DSI" is a typo error occurred while modifying the original datasheet of a MIPI DSI display. Please refer to the pin assignment in the mechanical drawing.

Please confirm if this LCD is compatible with SN65LVDS93B or DS90C385A.

Okay that datasheet is much better. Both of these devices should work fine with that display.

Is there any advantage in using any one of these devices, over the other, for interfacing the LCD to AM5728?

Hi Thariq,

The SN65LVDS93B has the option of 1.8V/3.3V tolerant data inputs while the DS90C385A is just 3.3V. The 93B also has a wider temperature range (-40 to 85C) if that is something you care about.

Other than that and some other minor differences, they are pretty much equivalent in regards to operation.
