DS16EV5110A: CABLE SELECTION

Part Number: DS16EV5110A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP410, , DS16EV5110

Dear TI Experts,

I am now using DS16EV5110A  work in with TFP410,

And I found a problem that when the cable length is 10cm,it works well.

When the cable length is 50cm, their is no output of the HDMI screen~

The output signal of TFP410 is 1080P,HDMI, and the cable I am using is not specialized  high speed cable, what I am using is ordinary  AWG30

Should I change to high speed cable?Do you have any suggestions?
By the way, what's the meaning of "EQUALIZER BOOST CONTROL"?
I think it means the driving ability, but when I set the register, their is no change~

  • Hi Qianqian,

1). Based on your description, it seems your 50cm cable has too much loss and device equalizer settings is not suitable for this 50cm AWG30 cable. There are two experiments you can do:

1). Assuming FEB pin pulled high, please make sure you go through all 8 settings of BST_0, BST_1, and BST_2 pins. I am not sure if you have a scope or not but you can observe effects of different settings and try to chose a setting that provides maximum eye opening.

2). Perhaps the second option is to use a 50cm cable with lower insertion loss or a better quality. Or a lower gauge setting than AWG30.

I am not sure if you have seen an app note using DS16EV5110 with AWG28 cable. Here is a link to this app note. Please note figure 5. You can ask your cable manufacturer to meet or exceed this cable insertion loss.
