DS90UB954-Q1: Does it support 5.4 Megapixels Sensors?

Hi,

Does the 953/954 chipset support higher resolution sensors such as 5.4MP/30fps (Sony IMX390)?

In the datasheets of the 953/953 chipset, it says they support sensors of 2MP/60fps and 4MP/30fps. The FPD-LINK III line rate can be upto 4.16Gbps, and the mipi CSI-2 can be 1.66Gbps per lane.

In contrast, a 5.4MP/30fps RAW12 sensor only needs 2Gbps (5.4M*30*12=1.944Gbps), it's far from 4.16Gbps.

The 2MP/60fps and 4MP/30fps on the datasheet are some of the common ones, but our SerDes can definitely support other sensors as long as the data rate is within our limit.

Please note that the 4.16Gbps line rate includes control data and other overhead. The actual CSI bandwidth we can support is 3.328Gbps per link.

We could support a 54MP/30fps RAW12 sensor.

Tang,

For 953/954 the operating FPD Link line rate is 4Gbps but the CSI video bandwidth is 3.3Gbps because there is overhead in the FPD Link encoding scheme. For your ~2Gbps data rate the 953/954 are ok.
