DP83848I: Interfacing with MC68360

Part Number: DP83848I

As part of a redesign I would like to use DP83848I ethernet transceiver with my processor MC68360 .In the current design the processor using SIA (serial Interface Adapter) for ethernet transceiver interface. Datasheet of the processor attached. Is DP83848 will work with my processor?

    Hi Remy,

    The processor datasheet does mention that it can perform Ethernet Controller functionalities. On page 7-240, it also has a block diagram showing processor connected to Ethernet PHY using MII interface. However, I could not find a specific mention in the datasheet saying that the processor supports MII interface. I think you can use DP83848I with this processor but as a final check I would recommend confirming with processor vendor that MII interface is supported on the Ethernet Controller.
