TUSB320: Should VDD be higher than 3.5V?

Hi TI,

In the datasheet of TUSB320, there is one note"VDD must be 3.5V or greater to adertise 3A current. Is it true?

Does that mean host controller cannot change value of register CURRENT_MODE_ADVERTISE via I2C to 10(high 3A)?

Because our system is 1.8V I/O, I would like to use 1.8V for VDD.

Fan,

This is correct, TUSB320 needs VDD to be higher than 3.5V when advertising 3A to ensure that the correct voltage is located on the CC pins. Also TUSB320 recommended operating range is 2.7V to 5V, please increase your Vdd to ensure proper operation.

Hi Malik,

Does this requirement only exist when we use TUSB320 as DFP? In our case, we are using it as UFP. So can we connect to 1.8V in this case?

Hi Fan,

No, this recommendation is for both DFP and DRP cases.

Hi Malik,
Thanks for your quick response.
If I use 3.9V for it., how about the pull up voltage for I2C/OUT3/ID? Can I use 1.8V? My host side is all 1.8V I/O.

Fan,

I2C (SDA and SCL) can operate with 1.8V. OUT3/ID can be pulled up to VDD.
