TPS65987D: Samsung Video over USB-C

We have finally got the Chromebook to send Displayport image data to our system via USB-C. It reads the EDID and displays the content as one might expect. Quality of the image is great.

Now, we are tasked with getting Samsung devices to output video content using the same interface. Samsung mobile devices like the Galaxy S9 or S10 and tablets.

Does anyone know how Samsung is different in regards to video content negotiation using TPS65987D? We get fast PD negotiation just fine but no video.

Hi Phil,

In the PD logs, are you seeing Display Port mode entering correctly? You should also be seeing the Hot Plug Detect "Attention" message in the PD logs. Can you confirm these are present?

"PD logs": You mention a log. Is this log provided by an external sniffer or is the log stored in internal memory via register access?

Hi Phil,

The PD logs are captured through an external sniffer and highlight the USB Power Delivery data between the two devices.

Eric,

Thank you for your quick replies.

I have ordered an analyzer and should have it in here late tomorrow. Once we know what is happening in the negotiations between our system and the Samsung device maybe we can access what needs to be changed in our TPS65987D settings.

I will let you know what we learn.
