DP83825EVM: DP83825i configuration

Part Number: DP83825EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83825I

Hi Expert,

My customer is using DP83825i now and set DP83825i in slave mode, which is set through the pin 17. They have two questions about the configuration.

1. Without extra configuration, the pin 2 is default to LED0 function. Is it correct?

2. The 50MHz reference clock is used on this application, which registers need to be configured?

They know the RMII_Clock_Selection in RSCR_Register need set to 1 and RMII_Clock_Selection in CR2 register is set to 0(default). Is there any other register need to be configured?

  • Hi Lenna,

For Q1, Pin 4 is LED_0. Pin 2 is LED_2 when the PHY is in RMII slave mode and 50MHz clock output pin when the PHY is in RMII master mode.

For Q2, on the EVM you would need to provide an external 50MHz clock in RMII slave mode. The EVM only have 25MHz crystal for reference clock input. The EVM also straps the PHY in RMII master mode. Customer can change the strap resistor to boot the PHY in RMII slave mode. They can also use register settings to configure PHY in RMII slave. RMII_Clock_Selection in RSCR_Register is correct for enabling RMII slave mode. Which bit in CR2 register are you referring to? In CR2 registers there is a  'RMII_Receive_Clock' bit. Is this the one that you are referring too?

  • Hi Aniruddha,

Yes. It refers ti the RMII_Receive_Clock bit in CR2 register. Is there any other register need to be configured?
