TUSB9261: doesn't communicate with the PC.

Hi, TI team.

By referring to TUSB9261DEMO, my customer did make the SCH & PCB for TUSB9261. but it doesn't communicate with the PC.

What should we check?

I attach the schematic.

Please help TUSB9261 to work normally.

Hi,

Could you give more of a description of the customer is seeing in this failure mode? What is the application and what is TUSB9261 connected to on the SATA side? Has the customer tried re-flashing the FW to TUSB9261?

Hi,

Application is HDD based media player. it connected external HDD device.

I know that TUSB9261 is programmed default firmware. should i rewrite the default firmware?

How should TUSB9261 be re-flashed? Please tell me how to re-flash.

Hi,

Is there a SPI flash connected to TUSB9261 at start-up? TUSB9261 needs to read a SPI flash in order to load FW. You can re-flash the SPI using TUSB9261 with the Flashburner software.

Hi,

According to e2e link below, TUSB9261 does not need a external EEPROM.

So, my customer except memory option. the problem is that can't recognize TUSB9261 at PC.

Hi,

Please see the post highlighted green as this contains the correct information that resolved the issue in that thread, see below for the relevant info from that thread. If TUSB9261 is seen by PC as a Bootloader then FW is not loaded onto TUSB9261 from external EEPROM. This is necessary for TUSB9261 to operate in normal function. What kind of device does the customer see TUSB9261 enumerate to the PC as?

The reason there is no firmware burned directly into the device is because the TUSB9261 isn't designed to hold the firmware. In the datasheet section 7.3.1.1:

"The TUSB9261 ROM contains boot code that executes after a global reset, which performs the initial configuration required to load a firmware image from an attached SPI flash memory to local RAM."

The TUSB9261 only contains boot code in the ROM, and its purpose is to get the firmware from SPI flash memory.

When refer to the datasheet below, I'm understood that it would be available without Flash memory.

But according to your advice, Flash memory is essential. is it right?

Hi,

That section is referring to the ability of the FW provided on ti.com, the FW is not pre-loaded into the internal RAM and needs to be loaded from an external SPI EEPROM into the internal RAM after reset is de-asserted.
