DP83867IS: Interface forum

Part Number: DP83867IS

a repeat of my previous question  as the thread got closed while i was abroad handling a client.

note : i have of course looked at the evaluation board and am designed like it as far as i know.

hello. we bought the DP83867ISRGZ to use as an ethernet phy. the serial communication with it is working properly (we followed each write with a read to verify) and it is reiceving the 25Mhz clock succseuflly(checked the clock output pin to verify) the problem is that when we connect an ethernet cable from it to a computer neither detects the other, the computer doesnt detect anything is connected and the phy does not respond (clk_ctrl). we connected the following ether pin 1 and 2 are connected to a transformer(H1102NL) and from there to pins 1 and 2 of DP83867ISRGZ. ether pin 3 and 6 are connected to a transformer(H1102NL) and from there to pins 4 and 5 of DP83867ISRGZ. is this the correct connection? the datasheet isnt clear if any ethernet pair can be used as either rx to tx on the DP83867ISRGZ. additionally is there any faulty strapping that might cause the ethertnet to fail? we allready had to fix the gpio0 strapping for the serial interface to work, we also allready made sure to clear bit[7] of address 0x0031 as the rx_ctrl was strapped to an invalid voltage.

  • Hi amir,

Can you send us the schematic for review please?

I am having a difficult time visualizing the connections.

When you say that the computer is not recognizing the connected device, are you connecting a MAC to the xMII of the PHY and sending a ping?

Or are you looking at just the link status?

  • attached the schematic.

T2 is a connector i connect to the ethernet cable, each pin is connectred to the same pin in the ethertnet cable ( T2-1 is connected to ethernet cable-1, T2-2 to cable-2......)

by the computer not recognizing i mean that when i connnecft an ethernet cable from the computer to the board the computer does not report anything is connected to it, cant send pings as this is only possible when a connection is detected.

the DS83867 does not respond to I2C and the clk_out pin outputs the 25Mhz clock it recieves so i know it is powered correctrly and not stuck in reset

(initially had a strap issue as described in the message above that caused the I2C interface to not work but fixed it)
