DP83867E: Driving inputs while part in unpowered

Part Number: DP83867E

Hi,

I am using this part and have a situation where all of this PHY device's power rails may occasionally be shut down. The input clock is from an external board however, is always driven, and may be driving the PHY's clock input while in the shut down state.

Can the part be damaged from this scenario? What are the characteristics in the data sheet to be aware of?

Thanks

Trevor

  • Hello Trevor,

If the oscillator it powered on right before the PHY is this shouldn't be in an issue.

Over long periods of time I do not foresee this being a problem but this is a very unusual scenario and we do not have any test data on it. I suggest avoiding it.

Please tell me more about your application /  share a block diagram. Where is this clock coming from? Why can't it be turned off.

    Thanks,

    Vibhu
