TPIC8101EVM: Error launching the GUI application

Part Number: TPIC8101EVM

When launching TPIC8101EVM.exe, I get the error message, "Error - Tiger: Error *** Write to USB --HID-- *** Command - 0xB ."  It looks like other users solved similar errors with a firmware update.  How can I get this update and installation instructions?

  • Hi,

Were you able to launch the GUI? Please check if the LED on the EVM is blinking or not. Also, is the jumper next to the LED is installed? If yes, please remove it and try again.

  • The GUI is now working, but I am having a different problem now.  I got the GUI working after talking to someone on the TI chat help.  They directed me to remove the programming jumper next to the LED and that solved the problem.  The problem now is that the XCLK signal from the TIGER board is not the correct frequency.  With the GUI application running and the TIGER board, connected, I have set the suggested parameters (according to the EVM users guide) using the GUI with the exception that the EVM external clock frequency and prescaler are 8 MHz rather than 6. I have measured the clock frequency at the XCLK test point and it is a 1 kHz, 5V square wave, not 8 MHz.  I have seen some similar posts on the forum such as https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/p/799641/2959097#2959097?jktype=e2e that suggest a firmware update may solve the problem.

  • Hi,

Yes, the firmware on the microcontroller needs to be updated. Unfortunately the engineer supporting the customer is on leave and i will try to locate the firware, this will take some time. Meanwhile, you can try forcing XCLK and INT signals externally and start usnig the device.

  • Hi,

The engineer who has access to the firmware will return from leave in the first week of January. I should be able to send you the file directly. Please send me a friend request on E2E so that I can share the file by 2nd week of January 2020.

    Regards

    Sharath.
