DP83822IF: 10BASE-Te Harmonics Test

Part Number: DP83822IF

I read this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/t/745280?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=DP83822IF. What seems to be missing is a test mode where it outputs all 1's as a Manchester encoded packet repeatably. The compliance test software from Tek that we use triggers off of TP_IDL to repeatably capture the data. Using register 0x0027 with the test pattern of 0011 - Repetitive 1 puts out a pure tone sine wave, not Manchester encoded. Thus, forcing a TP_IDLE forcing the test pattern TP_IDLE_00 at the end of the test pattern 0011 would test the pure tone and not the Manchester encoded data. Is there a way to force an all one's Manchester encoded packet as required per 802.3-2012 Section 1 Clause 14.3.1.2.1?

  • Hello Davin,

It looks like we've received this request offline and the team will discuss it there.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Davin,

You are correct, using register 0x0027 you cannot generate the Manchester encoded 1's required by the 10BASE-Te harmonic test.

"Is there a way to force an all one's Manchester encoded packet as required per 802.3-2012 Section 1 Clause 14.3.1.2.1?"

This cannot be done using the PHY alone, you will require to use a link partner to generate the test pattern, with the DP83822 configured to reverse loopback (register 0x16) to send the data to the TP Test Card.

I am closing this thread, I expect Carl will reach out to you with additional information.

    Thanks,

    Vibhu
