DS90UB960-Q1: PD-Link connection between UB953 and UB960 through active cable

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1

I was asked to use FPD link to support 30M active cable. Do you have active cable idea like as how to implement it and what vendor can make it?

  • Hello Alpha,

Typically active cables implement some integrated redrivving of the high speed signal in order to extend cable length. However FPD-Link is a bidirectional protocol which can not be supported by standard redrivers.

TO extend cable length to ~30m it is recommended to use a back to back repeater configuration like the below:

    Imager -> 953 -> 954 -> 953 -> 960

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hi Casey,

Very appreciated your reply. It made me clear. Can you help review the repeater block further as pics?

Regarding the cable requirement for 953/954/960 pairs, could I refer to doc Snla229.pdf? Or there is another doc to refer?

Do you have doc to explain how to qualify the PoC circuit?

    thanks.

    Alpha

     ?

  • Hello Alpha,

For the 953/953, please refer to the 954 datasheet table 227 for PCB channel recommendations. For the cable parameters please target <15m coax cable - for example Dacar 462 per segment.

For the PoC scheme it may be feasible, but we do not have test data for such an implementation. You will need to take care about the current requirements to drive two links and you must also take care about the IR drop across such a long cable to ensure that the far end receives high enough voltage.

There are example PoC networks in the 953/954 datasheets.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
