SN75DPHY440SS: MIPI signal integrity with flight time >2ns

Part Number: SN75DPHY440SS

Dear all,

I am designing an interface for a MIPI CSI DPHY Sensor with a required data rate of 1.5 Gbps. The target length of this interface is well above the recommandation, 500 to 1000 mm. The MIPI specification clearly states that the maximal flight time shall be limited to 2ns. in that case it will be 2 to 4 time higher.

I plan to perform a trial with a 600mm LVDS FFC flat cable (100ohms differential/ 50 ohms single ended)  the cable reference is Molex 0150212415. Insertion loss (single-ended) measurement with a NVA and obtain about -2dB at 1.5GHz including two connectors of the same series (Note the cable was a 300mm version and I will repeat the measurement soon with the 600mm version).

Will the MIPI compliance test failed when the flight time exceed 2ns. When is the MIPI compliance test required, shall a product that implement MIPI components be compliant? (assuming that the system is conformed to EMI/EMC norms)

Would you recommend to implement a retimer (e.g SN75DPHY440SS) or follow other direction, like the use a FPD-Link ?

Thanks for your support.

  • Please reach out to MIPI organization or MIPI compliance testing house for the question on the MIPI compliance test requirement.

The DPHY440 does not care about the flight time, so the impact of having a flight time outside the spec comes down to the source and the sink.

    Thanks
