TPS65987D: Dead Battery Limitations

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703A, TPS65987,

Greetings -

I have a USB-C PD design using the TPS65987 and the BQ25703a derived from the reference designs.  I am trying to understand behavior in dead battery mode.

I found this post:

TPS65987D: Supply Switch Over for dead battery mode

and saw this comment:

"If the dead battery flag is not cleared, then the functionality of the TPS65987D will be limited. "

Other than the item mentioned in the post, what are the behaviors and limitations?  I have searched through the data sheet and host interface user guide to learn more about battery mode behavior but I did not notice many specifics (for example the item mentioned in the above post.)

Is there any other documentation I should be looking at?

Thanks,

Dave

  • Hi David,

When in dead battery mode, the PD controller will reject any commands for the TPS65987D to become the source. The limited functionality is purely from a power perspective since there is nothing connected to the system that would supply the power to the TPS65987D for it to act as a source. All other functionality (alternate modes) is supported

    Hope this answers your question.
