USB-2-MDIO: Command to communicate over UART in Hyperterminal

Hi there,

I was succesful in configuring the Marvel 88E1111 with the MSP430F5529 using the USB 2 MDIO tool.

Next step, would be to establish the serial communication using hyperterminal.

I looked into the thread here(https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/p/653516/2402696#2402696?jktype=e2e) and the syntax given by Mr Rob, gives me the error of improper length for read/write.

Any helpful suggestions on this would be relaly useful for me.

Hi Rakshan,

Are you receiving the error for all registers or only when accessing extended register? USB-2-MDIO is designed for TI PHYs and with TI PHY extended register access methodology. Marvell device may have a different methodology for accessing extended registers.

Thanks for your reply.

I was getting the issue for all registers. However, i figured it out by using the serial port monitor.

If i am reading phy add 10 with reg add 2, then i should provide the hyperterminal with 100002=/

If i am writing the value of 2 to the same ,then 1000020002=/.

Just a quick question.. Why does accessing a extended register give a timeout error on ther USB-2-MDIO tool?

Hi Rakshan,

If you are using the USB-2-MDIO tool to access the extended registers of the Marvel PHY, you may receive an error as Marvell devices may have a different methodology than TI PHYs for accessing extended registers.
