SN65HVD1780-Q1: Short to battery protection for RS485

Part Number: SN65HVD1780-Q1

Hi Eric,

Is it safe to do short to battery(24V) test on terminal A and B. As described in absolute maximum rating voltage range is -70V to +70V.

Please reply ASAP.

Thanks.

  • Hi Vaibhav,

Yes, this device will be able to withstand a 24v battery short indefinitely because this value is below the specified absolute maximum. Note that the device may not behave according to other specifications (functional upset possible) when conditions exceed the values specified in the Recommended Operating Conditions section. This means during the 24v short, damage will not occur but the device will likely not function properly. See note (1) in section 6.1.

    Regards,
    Eric
