SFP CML driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ONET4201PA, DS100BR210, DS100BR111, DS64BR111

Hi team,

I am looking for a driver/buffer IC that can drive the input of SFP(4.25Gbps) transceiver. Please introduce TI devices.
・FPGA outputs CML signal on the board and inputs it to SFP.
・The specifications of SFP is attached.

Also, I found some ICs on TI's web page, but I do not know which is better.
ONET4201PA Is it an IC used to drive SFP?
DS100BR210 Is it an IC used to drive SFP?

  • Hi Tom,

Please take a look at the following two devices: DS64BR111 and DS100BR111. Based on the insertion loss from the FPGA and distance to the SFP you can consider one of these two devices. Unlike ONET4201PA, DS64BR111 and DS100BR111 have flexible input equalization and output de-emphasis as well.

  • Hi Nasser,

In this design, we think that the distance from the FPGA to the SFP module is about 3 cm and the loss of PWB is not so large, rather, we think that the signal jitter due to the insertion of the driver device is the problem.
So I would like to confirm the basics with the following devices.
    DS64BR111
    DS100BR111
    DS100BR210
・Can I use the default setting after power-on without using SMBus serial programming?
    ・Can I use frequencies below 10Gbps, such as 4.25Gbps?
・Which of the above devices has good jitter performance?

  • Hi Tom,

I believe the best approach is to use IBIS-AMI model to simulate your signal path. Based on your analyses, you can decide the best option. Please use the following link below to request models:
