DS280DF810: some questions about DS280DF810

Part Number: DS280DF810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS280MB810

Hi team,

My customer has a new requirement below.

main board and slave board are working together. When remove main board, the slave(backup) board will start to take over..

1) retimer 2) 25Gbps or above 3) can support below structure 4) transition time within 50ms 5)8 channel or more

So our DS280DF810 maybe suitable here.

notes: SFA is from main board, SFB is from slave(backup) board.

questions:

1. Time from MUX change to Serdes stable output?

2. whether the Serdes signal will have issues during the transition?

3. Whether we can also use pin mode to do the mux during on?

4. Whether the structure and insertion loss is fine?

4. Do we have other solutions to recommend?

Thanks.

  • Hi, see my inputs below.

    1. Time from MUX change to Serdes stable output?
      • One the DS280DF810 the Crosspoint precedes the CDR. Thus the timing is limited by lock acquisition time
      • Worst case CDR lock time is 100ms
    2. Whether the Serdes signal will have issues during the transition?
      • No issues other than the point above about CDR
    3. Whether we can also use pin mode to do the mux during on?
      • The DS280DF810 part number does not support pin mode. Crosspoint configuration must be performed via I2C register writes
    4. Whether the structure and insertion loss is fine?
      • Upon first evaluation your structure and insertion loss should not be a problem at all for the DS280DF810. 25dB is well within what the retimer EQ can compensate
    5. Do we have other solutions to recommend
    • You may also consider the DS280MB810, the pin-compatible repeater counter part to DS280DF810.
    • The DS280MB810 repeater Crosspoint switching time will be much faster as there is no CDR involved
