TPS65987D: Connecting PP_HV1 and PP_HV2 paths together as a sink?

Hello TI Team,

we were wondering if, when configuring the TPS65987D as a sink, we could connect together and use both power paths (PP_HV1&PP_HV2) at the same time?

Of course, VBUS1 and VBUS2 are connected together.

Additionally, would we still need to observe the total maximum capacitance of 120uF, even though we have connected both PP_HVx pins together?

Hi Daniels,

Yes you are able to do this if you will be using both as just sink.

I would recommend to not go over the 120uF limit but it shouldn't impact the performance, so you should be fine with a little more capacitance on those pins.

Thank you for the reply. What is the reason for the maximum capacitance specification on the PP_HV pins? Is this related to the USB specification somehow?

Hi Marcis,

No it's not necessarily for USB specification, the issue could be if there is a large amount of capacitance, the in rush current paired with soft starting the FETs could potentially stress the device.
