TPS65987D: Schematic Review

This circuit is fix for our older board . We have a tablet as a host connected to our device and we want to have communication between the tablet and our device and at the same time the tablet should be charged trough the USB type-c port. Could you please review the schematic.

Hello,

A few notes on your schematic:

LDO_1V8 can only have a capacitor of 2.2uF to 6uF witha typical value of 4.7uF used
LDO_3V3 is used as an output, and VIN_3V3 is the input device supply. These should not be shorted together. Please look at the TPS65987EVM for an example schematic
PP_CABLE has a typical capacitor value of 10uF
Please add a 10uF cap to PP_HV1 and PP_HV2

Are you putting more than 5V on PPHV? Otherwise you will need to separate PPHV and PP_CABLE.

Is it possible to use LDO_3V3 to supply power to VIN_3V3?

Thank you for your quick response.

We will use only 5V in our design. Also I would like to confirm that I am doing right thing with configuration.

We we will have tablet that is hots and our devise will be connected via USB type C to the tablet. We need communication and tablet charging using the same USB port. We have to provide charging for the tablet because our device is required to be connected to the tablet all time.

What configuration would be correct for this application.

Hello,

It is not possible to use LDO_3V3 to supply VIN_3V3. Please refer to the datasheet section 8.3.2 for more information.

Hi Franci,

So you will start with your device as the power source and as the DFP, the tablet will be the UFP. Then you will do a data role swap to the tablet for the tablet to be the DFP and your device to be the UFP. You can read more about this in the TPS65987DDH Host Interface Technical Reference Manual in section 4.7.3 and 4.7.4.

These settings can be programmed in the TPS6598x Application Customization GUI Tool.
