TPS65981: Internal ADC - Usage for system power management

my customer wants to use the internal ADC current readings for system power management. This E2E post says that the internal ADC is only meant to be used by the firmware.

Can you clarify if this is a viable approach?
What are the limitations for using the internal ADC for this?

Hello,

The thread that you link states that current measurement with ADCs is possible only when the Power Path is enabled AND the port sourcing power. So if you want to measure the current both as a source and a sink, you must use an external current sensor.

Do we recommend using the ADC for this or is there anything that needs to be taken care of?
In the other E2E thread we are stating that "We will consider removing ADC related info from TRM in the next revision."
This sounds like this feature should not be used at all.

I want to clarify if using the ADC comes with any drawbacks and if this is officially supported by the device or not.

Hello

I discussed this with my team and the ADC use is restricted to the PD FW. So we recommend the customer using an external current sensor. Will remove ADC related info from TRM in the next revision to avoid any additional confusion
