Hi,

I am working in a design with a TPS65988DH USB PD controller.

We are using both port 1 and port 2 as DRP.

Thus, we have added a Schottky Diode at the conjunction point of PPHV1 and PPHV2.

Can you please state whether it would cause any impacts on the PD controller behaviors?

Hi Beghiya,

It does not seem like your image loaded properly. In general though, a Schottky diode on the system side will not affect the performance of the TPS65988DH

Hi Adam,

But we are facing some issues in the PP_HV 2 path. When we connect a Source with Type A to Type C cable, the System is not drawing the maximum current required and it gets failed.

When we connect the same Source with the same Type A to Type C cable, the System is working properly.

When we removed the diode and shorted the PP_HV1 and PP_HV2, the error is resolved. I cannot understand why this behavior is observed.

We have tested this case on multiple boards. All the observations are similar

I would recommend removing the diode The TPS65988 incorporates protection functionality on its own, so there is no need for a diode to be used this way. You can read more on the power path performance and protection of the TPS65988 in the following app note
