Hi Team
My customer is evaluating DP83TD510E-EVM now. Customer has two questions below. Let me explain the situation first.
Customer measured eye diagram of received signal waveform with following test conditions by their own cable.
When distance being longer than 100m, eye diagram closed entirely.
When they use 2.4V mode, link kept established until 800m.
Test conditions :
・Connect one EVM to cable. Connect receive side to oscilloscope.
・Load Force_2v4Vpp_Master_Init.txt to EVM to continue output waveform (Is it correct to use this script to continue output waveform?)
・EVM's supply voltage is 12V
[Question 1]
This material shows the requirement for cable. Customer think the signal waveform will be distorted if the cable used is just almost fulfilled the requirement shown in previous material.
But customer can still establish link for 100m in 1V mode despite the eye diagram is closed.
So customer wants to know if there's any equalizer or amplifier function (or both) inside DP83TD510E-EVM to compensate received signal?
I know DP83822 have equalizer function, but how about DP83TD510E?
[Question 2]
If the cable used is just almost fulfilled the requirement in above material, customer worries about noise immunity due to S/N degradation.
Do DP83TD510E have such function to improve noise immunity or function that help prevent suffering from noise?
Please let me know if you need more information to give us advices.
Thanks.
Regards,
Jo
Hi,
1. Your understanding is correct. DP83TD510E has echo cancellers, equalisers and amplifiers on receiver path to boost and decode the signals.
2. DP83TD510E is tested for Industrial EMC Spec ( EFT 4KV, Surge) and found to be robust under noise condition.
Regards,
Geet
Hi Geet
Thanks for the reply.
Regarding question 2, following is shown in datasheet.
IEC 61000-4-4 EFT ±4 KV at 5 KHz, 100 KHz
IEC61000-4-5 surge ±2KV at 1,2/50us, 8/20us
Is the above results tested for specific distance between EUT and opposite equipment or the distance doesn't matter?
Customer is worrying if the result will change depends on the cable length.
Could you give me an example of test setting for above IEC 61000-4-4 and IEC61000-4-5 test?
Thanks.
Regards,
Jo
Hi Jo,
PHY is tested as per the defined IEC standard test procedure.
Cable length between DUT and LP was 20 meters, however the noise is injected at DUT cable per IEC standard requirement procedure. For test procedure details, customer has to refer to respective standard specifcations.

Geet
Hi Geet
Thanks for the reply.
My customer have further 2 questions. Could you kindly help with this? Thanks.
Question 1]
DP83TD510E's datasheet shows that the IEC61000-4-4 EFT test passes up to ±4.0kV.
At this time, how did TI judge whether communication is established or not? Is there some kind of criteria?
Question 2.
Please tell us how can we judge whether the communication is established or not with 10BASE-T1L.
If possible, it would be great if we could judge whether communication is established or not based on the received waveform.
Or if there is a description about how we can judge in 10BASE-T1L's specification, please let us know where it is.
BTW, What does LP mean in your previous reply?
Thanks.
Regards,
Jo
Hi Geet
Could you kindly help with above questions?
Please let me know if you have any unclear about the question.
Thanks.
Regards,
Jo
Hi Jo,
I connected with Geet and these are his answers to your questions.
1. We monitor the link up and the data error rate while monitoring the IEC61000-4-4 EFT test.
2. You could use a standard external packet generator and media converter with the DP83TD510E-EVM to transmit traffic over the 10BASE-T1L link.
Please let me know if you need anymore information!
