TUSB212-Q1: Android auto certification test

Part Number: TUSB212-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB212, TUSB211-Q1, TUSB216I, TUSB211, TUSB217-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer is in the middle of the test for android auto certification. But there is a fail issue during 100 times connection test. The host can not recognize the device that android auto is activated, and DC boost is not turned off even though the device is unconnected from the cable. The cable length is around 1 meter, and the trace length is around 50mm between USB connector and TUSB212-Q1. Please let me know how to resolve and improve it.

  • Hi,

What is the status of CD and ENA_HS during the failure? How do you know DC_BOOST has not turned off? It seems that USB 2 enumeration has not started even though the USB device is connected DP pulled up? TUSB212 redrive function does not turn on until after USB 2 HS enumeration has completed. TUSB212 should not impact USB Host function to start enumeration, how often does the system experience this issue?

  • Hi Malik,

Sorry for my delayed response. I'm checking on your requirements from my customer. I'll let you know that when this checking is completed.

  • Hi Malik,

I have checked on your questions from my customer. Please refer to the answers below..

What is the status of CD and ENA_HS during the failure? The status of CD can't be checked because they don't use it, and the status of ENA_HS is 3.3V level.

How do you know DC_BOOST has not turned off? DC level of about 1.0V is measured on DP/DM pins when the device is connected to the system, but DC level of about 0V is measured on DP/DM pins when the device's connection is failed.

It seems that USB 2 enumeration has not started even though the USB device is connected DP pulled up? Yes, it is.

How often does the system experience this issue? They didn't check the failure rate on the android auto certification test because just one failure can't meet this certification test. Also, this IC is worked properly when the power is turned off and on after the connection is failed.

Please let me know how to resolve and improve it.

  • Hi,

Based on the response it seems that during the test TUSB212 has enter compliance mode instead of normal high speed mode (based on ENA_HS status). We could double confirm if CD was able to be measured. What is the test procedure that is followed here? Is the issue seen if RSTN pin is held low for the duration of the test?

  • Hi Malik,

Please refer to the answers below..

    1. CD status : It is a high level during the failure.

    2. Test procedure

        a. connect USB cable between USB port of vehicle and mobile phone

        b. run the android auto app on AVN system of vehicle

        c. check the connection success

        d. repeat the connection and disconnection test of 100 times (unplug USB cable from mobile phone and plug in USB cable into mobile phone)

    3. RSTN : This issue has not seen if RSTN pin is held low for the duration of the test

Also, there is no problem on this test when TUSB212-Q1 is replaced to TUSB211-Q1 or removed on the board.

Please let me know the reason why.

  • Hi,

So CD and ENA_HS are high during failure? In this case it is not a issue with compliance mode or test procedure. I suspect the real issue here is DC_BOOST provided by TUSB212 being too strong and in some case causing disconnect. This aligns with TUSB211 not causing issue since part does not have any DC_BOOST. Can you try TUSB216I? This part has updated performance and finely tuned DC_BOOST to prevent these issues.

  • Hi Malik,

Yes, CD and ENA_HS are high during failure. The application of my customer should use the automotive qualified product, so TUSB216I can not use for that. I think that the setup(low or high) of DC_BOOST seems to be needed whether it works or not. Could you tell me your opinion?

    Regards,

  • Hi Jeffery,

Correct DC_BOOST setting seems to correlate to the failure. Is the setting on the PCB set for DC_BOOST low? If so then the signal path does not have enough loss and DC_BOOST feature is too strong leading to failure. We also have TUSB217-Q1 that has DC_BOOST tuned better than TUSB212-Q1. TUSB217-Q1 does use a different package.

  • Hi Malik,

I recommended them the setting test(low or high) for DC_BOOST on their board. I will let you know the test result if it is completed. As you know, TUSB217-Q1 can not be used on their board due to the different package, but I will recommend them for next model.

    Regards,

  • Hi Jeffery,

Understood, using TUSB211-Q1 can also be a solution here for the current module.
