Hi,

I am using LMH0397RTVT for my 3G SDI interface as cable driver and equalizer. Embedded audio will also be used in SDI. Please let me know whether this IC supports audio through SDI interface.

Hi Shifali,

Yes it does. Audio is part of the SDI frame format.

Hi Shifalli,

Audio is a part of the SDI video frame. LMH0397 is a layer 0 physical layer part and does not have the intelligence to know whether there is audio or video going through. FPGA or ASIC attached to the LMH0397 dis-embeds the audio.

Hi Nasser,

As per Table 12 of datasheet the IC supports 16 different slave address. I will be 16 such IC in my design. * for SDI output and other 8 for input. I will be using single I2C to control the IC. By assigning different slave address to individual IC, all the 16 ICs should be able to function without any problem. Kindly confirm.

Hi Shifali,

Yes your understanding is correct. Please note you also have pull up Resistors on SDA and SCL as noted in the data sheet.

Hi,

I am planning to use LMH0397 for both 3G SDI input and 3G SDI out in Intel Arria10 SX platform. Do you have any concerns regarding it. Do you have any case were any functionality issue was faced in Intel Arria10 platform.

Hi Naseer,

When I am configuring IC in cable driver mode, I am planning to take the output from SDI_Out rather than SDI_IO. Is there any advantage of connecting output to SDI_IO or any disadvantage of connecting output to SDI_Out.

Hi Shifali,

There is not a disadvantage of using SDI_OUT versus SDI_IO output. Please note you would need to use SMBus interface to power down SDI_IO cable driver when device is configured as cable driver. SDI_OUT can be enabled or disabled through SDI_OUT_SEL but SDI_IO cable driver needs to be configured through register/SMBus interface.

Hi Naseer,

I will also be doing SI analysis for my board for which i need IBIS/ IBIS-AMI model for LMH0397. I got access LMH1297 secure software where i could find IBIS_AMI model for LMH1297. Can you confirm LMH0397 has separate IBIS-AMI model or do we have to consider LMH1297 model.

LMH0397 and LMH1297 use the same IBIS-AMI model.

Host-side loopback allows host or FPGA to do diagnostics to make sure correct data is being sent on line.

I will be using IC as either output or input. How should the used input and output pins be terminated. can it be left floating. Also I have attached my design for both SDI input and output. Kindly review the same and provide your input.

Please read data sheet table 2,3 and figure 20. This shows pin selection and how to terminate used input and output.
