SN6505B-Q1: ref design for 12V output

Part Number: SN6505B-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505B

Hi experts,

I want to use SN6505B-Q1 for a 5V input, 12V output design. not familiar with this device, please suggest if can meet this 5V input 12V output requirement. if can , how to design the transformer?

appreciate if any ref design or guidance. thanks.

  • Hi Yuan,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Yes, the device supports 5V input with 12V output. Since the output voltage is primarily dependent on the transformer, there is no restriction on the output voltage you can get as long as the transformer turns ratio is designed accordingly. The key parameters that need to be designed are turns-ratio, V-t product, diode selection, capacitor selection and LDO selection. Section 9.2 in SN6505B datasheet discusses this in detail, this should help you design transformer to meet your requirement.

We also have a transformer parameter calculator that takes your application requirements and designs the transformer parameters. Please find below a link to the tool that is listed in SN6505B product page.

I am also copying below a link to an application note that lists various transformers including the one for generating 12V output from 5V input that you readily use for your application. Thanks.
