ISOUSB111: Driver strength

Part Number: ISOUSB111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOUSB211

Hi team,

Customer would like to check if ISOUSB111 get EQ or other driver strength enhance feature to improve the signal quality.

Another question, if ISOUSB111 could support 5m long cable driver.

Could you help comment on those 2 question?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Will

  • Hi Will,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Customer would like to check if ISOUSB111 get EQ or other driver strength enhance feature to improve the signal quality.

The in-built EQ features are primarily to help compensate for the signal that could occur due to traces between ISOUSB and MCU on one side and ISOUSB and connector on the other side. With the help of EQ features, customer product can fully support USB requirements at its ports.

Another question, if ISOUSB111 could support 5m long cable driver.

ISOUSB111 follows USB 2.0 LS/FS implementation and hence, will support everything a USB 2.0 LS/FS compliant device should. I believe USB 2.0 allows operation of upto 5m of cable length, and ISOUSB111 should also not have any issues in supporting this length.

Let me know if you have any other question, thanks.

  • Hi Koteshwar,

    Thanks for your support.

    Get 2 more questions:

    1. Do we get more detailed explanation of EQ feature such as parameters to help understand this feature?

    2. Since the USB2.0 communication is bidirectional, do we get EQ on both UD+/- and DD+/- side? Does both side support full speed 5m?

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Will

  • Hi Will,

Sorry, I missed to notice that you are referring to ISOUSB111 and not ISOUSB211 in reference to EQ features. EQ feature is only implemented on ISOUSB211 as this supports higher datarate and has higher pins to allow for EQ setting configuration.

    1. Do we get more detailed explanation of EQ feature such as parameters to help understand this feature?

As stated above, the EQ feature is supported only on ISOUSB211. Please refer to the below App Note that explains how EQ feature compensates for the loss and also presents actual test data under various losses due to various PCB sizes.

Compensate for Channel Loss with Equalizer Settings on High-Speed USB Isolators

    2. Since the USB2.0 communication is bidirectional, do we get EQ on both UD+/- and DD+/- side? Does both side support full speed 5m?

Yes, both UD and DD pins support EQ features for ISOUSB211 and both the ports follow USB 2.0 requirements and hence, they both should support 5m cable length according to USB 2.0.

Let me know if there are any further questions, thanks.
