SN6505A: 6W use case confirmation

Part Number: SN6505A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6507

Hi Team:

My customer want to use SN6505A to make a 6W power module as 5V/1.2A.

But i check the spec of ILIM is more than 1.2A.  so would you help to check whether we can reach to 1.2A ? and why as 1A output with 1.75A limit range, This range of protection is a bit far。

  • Hello Allen,

The SN6505A is designed (recommended) for operation ~1A. However, the current diodes have an over current Clamp/Limit (ILIM) of 1.42-2.15A (typically around 1.75A) as shown in the screen capture above. This limit is to provide some headroom for the device to operate at 1A. Since operation is recommended for 5V @ 1A, this would be a 5W device typically.

Since the input voltage will likely have some variation, we do not recommend operation past 1A.

The SN6507, however, offers a wide supply range and allows for 12W operation. Which could allow up to ~2A @ 5V on the output side depending on the input supply available.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Best,
    Andrew
