[FAQ] What primary inductance value should I choose for my push-pull power supply design using SN650x devices?

What primary inductance value should I choose for my push-pull power supply design using SN650x devices?

  • SN650x devices are push-pull transformer drivers and the push-pull topology doesn't have a direct dependency on primary inductance of a transformer as a design parameter. The design requires input voltage, output voltage, output current and switching frequency as input parameters and based on these, the SN650x Transformer Parameter Calculator produces the minimum required turns-ratio and V-t product for the transformer. As long as turns-ratio and V-t product requirements are met, the transformer is going to produce the output according to the design inputs.

The primarily inductance of the transformer can be anything that the transformer vendor requires it to be to achieve the required turns-ratio and V-t product.
