[FAQ] What is sinking type and sourcing type inputs?

What is sinking type and sourcing type inputs?

  • Sinking Type Inputs are also called as positive logic digital input as per IEC61131-2. The direction of flow of current is into the device from the switch/sensor. The VIN is independent of AVCC. Each input can handle up to 36V inputs. Hence, it is easier to connect parallel sensors with different supply voltages.

Sourcing type inputs are also called negative logic digital input as per IEC61131-2. The direction of flow of current is out of the device to switch/sensor. If the wire shorts to GND, it will appear as sensor is ON.
