Can ISO1042-Q1 replace the combination of SN65HVD1040 and ISO7742DWR?

Will this replacement cause any problem?

Or what are the benefits of using ISO1042-Q1? (A detailed comparison will be good)

    ISO1042-Q1 is our latest isolated CAN transceiver and hence has the best specifications incorporated. ISO1042 can certainly be used in place of SN65HVD1040 and ISO77742. Please allow me to come back to you with a comparison data between ISO1042 & SN65HVD1040. Thanks.

    Except the higher data rate, reinforced surge protection and the reduction of an ISO IC (more space, lower price), does it have other advantages of using ISO1042?

    You have highlighted the main benefits. It also has:

    • A higher standoff voltage range (+/-70V instead of -27V/+40V).
    • Larger common mode range (+/-30V instead of +/-12V)
    • The integration also makes it easier to ensure that your system meets the CAN timing specs. 

    I did want to point out that unlike the SN65HVD1040, the ISO1042 does not have wakeup / standby functionality or the split rail.

    The data rate of ISO1042 is said can be designed up to 5-Mbps from datasheet, and I would like to ask how to design the data rate? By designing the ICC1?

  • Hi Lee, 

    There is nothing special that has to be configured to get the ISO1042 to work at 5Mbps. If you give a 5Mbps signal on TX the CAN bus will follow. Icc1 and Icc2 should be designed to handle worst case (bus dominant) for whatever Vcc1 you use.
