ISO1211: The lowest current limit for ISO1211

Part Number: ISO1211

Hello team,

As we could ignore IEC61131-2, how much can we reduce the current limit for ISO1211 in order to minimize the self-heating of ISO1211?

While, does the lower current limit cause the lower noise immunity (or slower propagation delay)?

  • Hi Iwata-san,

The maximum recommended value for RSENSE is 562Ω and hence the minimum current under worst-case conditions should be >2.2mA for VSENSE >VIL. This means the current cannot be reduce any further than 2.2mA for ISO121x to operate normal.

If compliance to IEC 61131-2 is not required and it is necessary for customer to reduce input current for reducing self-heating then I would recommend customer to use a discrete solution using ISO77xx + SN6505. This will also allow higher channel integration upto 6 channels per device without leading to any thermal challenges. Let me know if this is something that customer would like to puruse. Thanks.
