ADS5444-SP Front End Drive Electronics Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5444-SP, ADS5474, ADS54RF63, ADS5444

Hello,

I would like to feed two separate ADS5444-SP ADC's with the same analog signal. The clock to the ADC's would be running at 250 MHz, but 2 nS out of phase, so as to achieve 500 MHz sampling. I'm concerned with sample and hold switching noise from the two channels corrupting the signal.

Can anyone provide any guidance on the best drive electronics to use for such an implementation?

Thanks in advance, Darren O'Connor

  • Hi,

It occurs to me that we have two EVMs on our TI web site and available from our TI store that do what you are suggesting.  I would suggest taking a look at these two EVMs as examples, as the User Guide for each is on the web and has schematics of the EVM and figures showing the layout of the EVM.

http://www.ti.com/tool/ads5474adx-evm is a 2-way interleaved EVM built around two of our 400 Msps ADS5474 devices.  http://www.ti.com/tool/ads54rf63-adx4 is a 4-way interleaved EVM built around four of our 550Msps ADS54RF63 devices.

Both of these EVMs are a joint development between TI and the company SPDevices, who owns and licenses the intellectual property contained in the FPGA to clean up the interleaved data stream of artifacts due to mis-match of amplitude or phase of the two data converter paths.

These devices as well as the ADS5444 have buffers on the analog input to isolate the external world from switching noise generated from the sampling circuits.

Finally, since I see you are looking at the -SP version of this device I will move this post to our High Reliability forum as they really support this device.

    Regards,

    Richard P.
