UC1825A: How much (%) solder connection is required for proper function on these parts

Part Number: UC1825A

-Parts exhibit Extremely LOW or NO OUTPUT

**Please advise how much (%) solder connection is required for proper function on these parts

(Some integrated circuits require at least 70% solder contact with PCB to Leads) Please advise if there is any minimum percentage of solder connection required for proper function.

SOLDER X-RAYs show “air pockets” and VOIDS in Solder connection.

-Could this also impact function and performance?

Please advise

  • Hi Sean,

Properly soldering of leads is critical for reliable operation of the part.

    1. follow IPC J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies.

    2. Properly soldered leads helps take away the heat from the device to the PCB  thus it is a thermal.

3 If you have cold solder joints, that would imply high resistance and it will prevent the part from working properly.

    4. monitoring the temperature at the leads will  also gives a good indication of the junction temperature of the part.

If it address your question, please verify the answer.    Thanks
