SN74LVC16244A: how to explain about "Ioff Supports Live Insertion, Partial-Power-Down Mode, and Back-Drive Protection""

Part Number: SN74LVC16244A

Hi team,

Our customer requested that we explain each of the following words in the datasheet of  SN74LVC16244A .

I off Supports Live Insertion, Partial-Power-Down Mode, and Back-Drive Protection"

Could you give me any advice how to explain that to them ?

Regard,

Toshiaki Morita

  • Hi Toshiaki,

Ioff is an electrical characteristic of a feature known as partial-power-down mode/back-drive protection. A device with these features, when Vcc = 0V, will have its inputs and outputs go high impedance. This can protect the device if other components in the system are still active by preventing current from flowing into the inputs/outputs of the powered-down device (back driving current). Please see this FAQ for a bit more information as well as this Application Report.
