SN74HC08: Difference between SN74HC08N-E4 and SN74HC08N-G4

Part Number: SN74HC08

Tool/software:

Hello,

could you tell me what the main difference is between 74HC08N-E4 and 74HC08N-G4.

We have problems with the -G4 Version in a time critical application.

THX

Michael

  • The SN74HC08NG4 was discontinued. But the E4/G4 suffix indicates the lead finish (see [FAQ] Why does a logic device's part number have an E4/G4 suffix?), and this device always uses NiPdAu, so there is no difference.

Independently from the lead finish, there was a die change some time ago (see PCN 20210628000.1). The newer die has a smaller typical propagation delay, but the guaranteed datasheet limits did not change. It is possible that your circuit expects the device to have characteristics that go beyond the datasheet limits.
