BJT Transistor Selection

Greetings:

I have a simple application that requires a BJT NPN transistor. Collector-emitter voltage rating 15V or greater is fine. Collector current 10ma or greater is fine. VCE (sat) 0.4V or less is fine.

The key parameter needed is that the emitter-base breakdown voltage must be 12V or greater. I need an SOT23 package.

Please advise.

Carl,

For generic NPN, 2n3904 is inexpensive and popular.

It comes in many part names and the "2n" is sometimes omitted.

Hello Ronald. Thanks for the response. However, when I look at the datasheet for the 2N3904 (or others like the MMBT3904) I see an emitter-base breakdown voltage of 6.0V, not 15V or greater. Also, I do not see the 2N3904 in a SOT23 package. My requirements are listed in the original submittal. Please advise.

Carl,

I mistook VBE as VCE. It will be hard to find a high reverse VBE transistor because low breakdown voltage is good for high NPN beta. I also do not see any search parameter for VBE.

It may be best to limit the reverse voltage instead.
