SN74LVC541A: Failure rate calculation at 30°C

Part Number: SN74LVC541A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , SN54LVC541A

Hi,

Please let me how to calculate the failure rate of the IC (SN74LVC541A) at 30°C.

I had used MTBF estimator for the same but there it was calculated at 125°C.

  • Hi manu,

To preface this, I am not a quality expert, nor do I know how they calculate the value given in the MTBF calculator, however I can tell you that 21939 of these parts were tested for 1000 hours at 125C with zero failures. The failure rate of this part is basically just a conglomerate of the failure rates for the parts that make it up -- apparently giving 1.88E9 s (~60 years). Operating below 125C will extend that life, but probably not significantly.

Is there a particular application that you are going to use this part in that will require more data?
  • Hi Emrys,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes,We are using this part for defense application so I need an exact value for the same part at Tj=40 and application will be airborne inhabited fighter jets.

  • Thanks manu,
I would recommend switching to the SN54LVC541A, which is rated for military and defense applications. There is also a 'high reliability' version of the device, SN74LVC541A-EP. The catalog version of the device doesn't fall under the same stringent testing as these devices, and thus the data isn't available for them.
