CD4050B: Conflicting specs

Part Number: CD4050B

Hello,

We want to convert 10V in to 5V out. In your CD4050B spec sheet Section 3 states “The input-signal high level (VIH) can exceed the VCC supply voltage when these devices are used for logic level conversions.” Yet section 9.2.2 states “Inputs are not overvoltage tolerant and must be below VCC level because of the presence of input clamp diodes to VCC.”

Since these are opposite statements, which section is correct?

Thank you,

-Barry

  • The sentence in section 9.2.2 was inserted from a template when the datasheet was converted from revision I to revision J in TI format. That sentence is not correct for the CD4050B; section 3 and the schematic diagram are correct.
