TM4C129CNCPDT: Arm-based microcontrollers forum

Part Number: TM4C129CNCPDT

Hello,

We have received questions from our customers.

Regarding TM4C, is there any material about the CPU error countermeasures (neutrons of sunspot activity) in the title?

I would appreciate it if you could teach me.

Thank you.

Daisuke Hagiwara

  • Hello Hagiwara-san,

This query isn't really clear to me, I am not familiar with terms like 'neutrons of sunspot activity'.

Regarding CPU errors we have the following document to debug and resolve: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spma043

  • Hello Jacobi-san

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

My phrasing was poor, may I ask again?
I have a question about SER by the influence of cosmic ray neutrons.
It is said that the amount of neutrons generated differs depending on the increase or decrease in sunspots.
A customer asked us about the correlation between the solar cycle and SER and the existence of materials explaining the countermeasures.
Did you understand what I spoke about?

    Thank you

  • Hello Hagiwara-san,

I understand the question now but I have no knowledge about this topic or any idea who would really be able to speak to it. This not something that has come up before. I am not aware of any collateral on this topic from Texas Instruments in general, and certainly nothing what so ever about TM4C devices.

TM4C microcontrollers are general purpose Industrial-focused single core Arm MCUs, so they would not have any unique protections implemented - just standard semiconductor manufacturing processes.

If there is a very deep concern about this topic then perhaps they may find our Hercules lockstep microcontroller controllers more applicable as those are actually designed for safety critical applications. I doubt they have done anything to the extent of defending against cosmic ray neutrons, but the lockstep setup would add a level of reliability that TM4C does not offer.

I found TMS570LC4357: Radiation tolerance data & BSP questions which says you need to select a space qualified part to get radiation test data.
