TMS570LC4357: Clarification the ERROR pin behavior for ESM group 2 and 3

Hi *

For ESM group2 and ESM group 3, when the errors condition happened, the TRM 16.1.1 mentioned that predefined ERROR pin behavior.

Could someone help me out on this part, what is this expected output behaviour, is there a fixed value that is mentioned in the TRM or datasheet?

Hi Deric,

ESM Group 2 and 3 are directly connected to nERROR as seen in Figure 16-1.
If an error is signaled to ESM and one of the bits for Group 2 or Group 3 is set to 1, the nERROR pin will put out a LOW-Signal as shown in Chapter 16.2.2. (No Error in ESM would a HIGH-Signal for the Pin)

Thanks guys, for the ESM group nERROR low pulse duration can be controlled vclk and LTCP counter. That is clear,how about the group 2 and 3. Is this predefined value/low pulse duration mentioned in the specification? One application to make use of this low pulse duration to inform external system about the ESM status.

The nError Pin Timing explained in the section 16.2.2 is applicable for the all the ESM group errors i.e. Group1, Group2 and Group3.

And note that as Group1 errors are low severity, the are not trigger nError pin by default and it is optional to configure them to control nError pin. Where as Group2 and Group3 errors are always trigger the nError pin default.

Thanks, the diagrams are very useful and clear. Is there a timing value at the NERROR for group 2 and 3 errors, i will like to explore this option.

The below is the timing formula for nError

And you should need to calculate timing value based on VCLK frequency and LTCP value you configured.

I thought that is for ESM group 1 only.

Actually, that is for all the ESM errors. Remember nError pin is common pin for all the ESM errors, so the above timing formula will be same for all ESM group errors.

ooh okay.

This table is not about timing of nError, it is just saying about influence. That means Group1 can be configured to either influence nError or not, it is just configurable but whereas for group2 and group3 they are fixed, and they definitely influence the nError pin. So, if any group2 or group3 error occurred then they will trigger the nError pin but group1 error will trigger nError pin only if they are configured.
