I don't think it would be wholly accurate to call them the 'same thing'.
The interconnect terminology is used to describe where there are interconnect paths between the different cores.
The mailbox is how the cores can exchange messages between any two processors cores that are interconnected.

becasue they are indenpent chapter in the safety manual for safety mechanisms. may i understand that mail box also uses the "interconnect" to tranfer data ?
