Hi,

I've been having difficulty getting the TMS570LC4357 on a LAUNCHXL2 to reset when the Digital Watchdog times out. The manual, spnu563a, refers to either an NMI or system reset but not how to specify which of these to generate (note I am specifically asking about DWD, not DWWD). There is an old thread here asking the same question on the LS part but unfortunately the response is an image or some file I can't access. Could you please clarify how to configure a reset?

Hi Jagadish,

I understand from the FAQ that the setting for NMI vs Reset is WWDRXN in RTIWWDRXNCTRL. i.e. the same field sets behaviour for both Digitial Watchdog and Windowed Watchdog. I had already guessed that would be the case but good to have it confirmed. It looks like my issue is actually closer to the thread linked at the bottom of your FAQ. The symptoms of just hanging up on expiry are similar and the reset source handling in HL_sys_startup.c is the same HALCoGen template.

Problem solved. Thanks for being so quick with help.

In case anyone else encounters the CPU appearing to lock up or go into ESM high level interrupt 0 instead of resetting when watchdog timer (DWD) expires.

1.Set the WWDRXN in RTIWWDRXNCTR to cause a RESET by writing 0x05 to this register. The Technical reference manual spnu563a says this is only for DWWD but actually affects both watchdogs.

2. Handle reset reasons WATCHDOG_RESET and WATCHDOG2_RESET in HL_sys_startup.c. HALCoGen leaves that up to user code.
