AM2634: How to Use external oscillator and how to test?

Part Number: AM2634
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Hi,

Actually i want to know how to configure the external clock for this MCU?

if you see in this picture there is no way to configure the external clock

so if it is available can you please mention how to configure and if not possible in sysconfig, or else can you explain what changes i need to do in coding to test the external oscillator.

  • Hi Aakash

External Clock option is available in the drop down menu, is this what you're looking for?

To configure the external clock and know more about its workings, please refer to Section 6.4 Clocking in the TRM

    Akshit

  • Thanks for giving the answer,

    i have one more question

    1. How we can con configure the internal RC oscillator as a Reference Clock?

    2. How we can verify our system clock after configure the internal/External clock?

  • Hi Aakash

Please refer to the following answers for your questions.

    1. as can be seen from TRM: Section 6.4.1. "The reference clock can either be external crystal driver provided through ‘XTAL_XI’ pad or external reference clock provided through ‘EXT_REFCLK0’ PAD."

  • Thank you for your Replay

Now i am testing EXT_REFCLK0’ PAD this so for this i configured the

    clock configuration as

    GPIO configuration as

i connect the pin with DSO

Now my requirement is to test the clock frequency of reference clock in DSO so here 20Mhz i configured so same 20MHZ i need to observe in DSO

    1) so, can u please say how to use EXT_REFCLK0’ PAD this pin and can you say my approach is correct?
    2) if no can u say what is the way to monitor the Frequency of Reference clock in DSO which i configure in sysconfig?

  • Hi Aakash,

    1. you need to provide input to the EXT_REFCLK0 (HSEC pin 74) for the external clock.

    2. then use the CLKOUT[0:1] pins to route out the associated clock signal for verification.

    3. Please refer to the TRM Clocking (Chapter 6.4) section for details regarding the clock tree and IP distribution. Each IP has GCM (General Clock Manager) peripheral associated with it to select the available clock sources provided in the table in section 6.4.3.3 Clock Selection (Page 261).

    4. Additionally, The SOC_rcmsetClkoutClock() API in the soc_rcm.c:1996 file in muc_plus_sdk can be taken as reference to configure CLKOUT.

  • Hi Akshit Thank you for your replay,

    1. I am Tested the pin CLKOUT1 Pin-72 in HSEC pin to DSO

and i used this function SOC_rcmsetClkoutClock(uint32_t clkout0FreqHz, uint32_t clkout1FreqHz); but i am not getting the clock frequency in DSO
in below u see i am expecting 25Mhz but i am getting only 2Mhz even though it will showing some noise.

    2. i am attaching my zib file below can you verify this and say suggestion i am not aware of this how to use
    1638.hello_world_am263x-cc_r5fss0-0_nortos_ti-arm-clang.zip

    3. Provide input to the EXT_REFCLK0 (HSEC pin 74) for the external clock, which mean i need to configure as XTALCLK in sysconfig?

    4. i need to test the Clock frequency of MCU in DSO also can you please detail explain the entire process step by step.

  • Hi Akshit,

It's been a while since I posted this question - any updates / progress on your side?

    Thanks,

    Aakash

  • Hi Aakash,

is there a peripheral which's clock you want to configure as External?

Please refer to TRM: Table 6.28 to know which input clocks can be configured for which peripheral.

    XTALCLK and EXT_REFCLK0 are different.

The reference clock can either be external crystal driver provided through ‘XTAL_XI’ pad or external reference clock provided through ‘EXT_REFCLK0’ pad. This selection can be provided using the TOP_RCM.PLL_REF_CLK_SRC_SEL register

I highly recommend you to go through the TRM and Register Addendum, which will clear most of your doubts.

    Regards,
    Akshit
