MSP432E401Y: PC cannot detect the MSP-EXP432E401Y development kit

Dear experts,

Today is the first day I installed CCS12.7.1 and connected the MSP-EXP432E401Y development kit to the PC. But my PC cannot detect the launchpad. I read some discussions including this one MSP432E401Y: Launchpad is bricked, unlock sequence does not work - MSP low-power microcontroller forum - MSP low-power microcontrollers - TI E2E support forums. My case is almost the same as this one. But his PC can detect the launchpad and can reflash the XDS110. But my PC cannot detect the launchpad with command xdsdfu -e (please see the picture).

How can I reflash the XDS110?

Hi,

Is your MSP-EXP432E401Y a brand new board and this is your first time trying to connect to it? Can you try another PC? Can you show the Device Manager status? I don't recommend reflashing XDS110 firmware until I know the root cause of the problem. The reason is that a brand new board should have proper XDS110 firmware loaded on the TM4C129 chip on the board acting as a XDS110 debug probe. If the problem is indeed associated with the XDS110 firmware then you can use the below commands to load the firmware but I will ask you to do so later until we know if it is a firmware issue.

> ./xdsdfu -b boot_loader.bin -r

> ./xdsdfu -f firmware_3.0.0.22.bin -r

Hi Charles,

I ordered the launchpad 10/13/2023, this is the first time I connect it to PC.

I tried on one PC (this one installed with CCS) and one laptop. The following is the device manager status for this PC. No Ti device is detected.

The following one is from the laptop. The launchpad was not detected.

For the launchpad is not detected, If I have to flash the firmware using the following command:

> ./xdsdfu -b boot_loader.bin -r

> ./xdsdfu -f firmware_3.0.0.22.bin -r

Do I have a chance to finish the flashing?

With installed CCS12.7.1, I have "firmware_3.0.0.29.bin" not "firmware_3.0.0.22.bin" on my PC.

In addition, I did not see the command "xdsdfu -b <file>" in the XDS110SupportReadMe, is it "./xdsdfu -b boot_loader.bin -r"?

Hi Zhonghai,

Can you please go to the Manual Update and Troubleshooting sections on XDS110 user's guide on how to update the firmware.

Hi Charles,

The problem solved as I changed another USB cable. The cable coming with the kit has something wrong with it.

Finally, it works now.

Really glad the solution to the problem is a new USB cable. I should've thought about changing the cable as a suggestion but glad that you did.
